President Pavel accepts resignation of Fiala’s government
President Petr Pavel has accepted the resignation of Prime Minister Petr Fiala’s cabinet at Prague Castle and asked it to continue performing its duties until a new government is appointed. The outgoing coalition of Spolu and STAN will remain in office in a caretaker role. Pavel has tasked ANO party leader Andrej Babiš with forming a new government in coalition with the Freedom and Direct Democracy (SPD) party and the Motorists’ party. He thanked Fiala’s cabinet for managing crises triggered by Russia’s war in Ukraine and praised its foreign and security policies. Fiala said his government would ensure a smooth and dignified transfer of power and that it was leaving the country in better condition than it had taken over four years ago.
