Prague’s Mánes Gallery showcases over 100 Works by Jiří Kovařík

Prague’s Mánes Gallery is hosting an exhibition featuring over 100 paintings by Jiří Kovařík, a Plzeň-born artist considered one of the most controversial Czech painters of the 20th century. Due to his criticism of the communist regime, Kovařík was banned from exhibiting for years. Curator Michael Zachař describes Kovařík’s work as exceptional and timeless, blending surrealism, poetic realism, symbolism, and modern expressionism. His art, inspired by mythology, dreamlike visions, and deep introspection, was once seen as too radical but is now recognized as a key part of Czech modern art.
