PM: Czechia managing Ukrainian refugee wave, registration times could be extended

Thus far, the Czech Republic is coping well with the influx of Ukrainian refugees caused by Russia’s invasion of the country, Czech Prime Minister Petr Fiala said on Tuesday. More than 100,000 Ukrainian refugees have come to the Czech Republic since the war began, Mr Fiala said, and it is necessary to look into how the situation will be managed further.

One option, mentioned earlier on Tuesday by Interior Minister Vít Rakušan, is to extend the deadline by which Ukrainian refugees have to register with the foreign police from 3 to 30 days. The state is also considering increased funding for regional administrations seeking housing for refugees and a strengthening of the country’s social system. Furthermore, a new legislation proposal counts on refugees with a temporary visa being able to work in the Czech Republic without first getting a work permit.
