PM: Czechs to feel impact of Russia’s war on Ukraine for months or years
The Czech prime minister, Petr Fiala, says the country will feel the consequences of Russia’s war on Ukraine for months or even years. Speaking on CNN Prima News on Sunday, the government chief said that Czechs did not need to worry about their own safety in view of the fact the Czech Republic is a member of the EU and NATO. However, they are facing price increases and an influx of refugees, he said, adding that the wave of Ukrainian refugees sparked by Moscow’s attack on the country was the biggest since WWII.
Mr. Fiala said price rises were a direct consequence of Russia’s actions and that the Czech Republic would work with its EU partners to seek a new energy mix. He said 8 percent of the country’s natural gas came from Russia but that amount would need to be reduced in future.
