Regions want more money from state to house Ukrainian refugees

Regional administrations across the Czech Republic are calling for more state funds to cover the expenses associated with finding housing for Ukrainian refugees, the Chairman of the Association of Regions Martin Kuba said on Tuesday after a governors meeting with Interior Minister Vít Rakušan.

Mr Kuba said that emergency housing capacity has already been exhausted in many regions and that several local administrations are now having to secure accommodation for refugees in hotels.

Meanwhile, Interior Minister Rakušan said that the government is set to discuss whether the deadline by which Ukrainian refugees need to report their details to Czech foreign police could be extended from three to 30 days. He added that the threshold for the number of refugees that can be guaranteed basic comfort and housing lies at around 250,000.
