Water supply in Odolena Voda contaminated with lead

Central Bohemian water utility Středočeské vodárny said on Friday it had filed a criminal complaint against an unknown perpetrator over lead contamination at the Odolena Voda water reservoir.

Water tests on Thursday detected excessive lead concentrations in municipalities supplied by the reservoir. At the Odolena Voda reservoir, the legal limit of 10 micrograms per litre was exceeded threefold.

The company has also contacted the Czech Environmental Inspectorate. Around 15,000 people have been affected, and restrictions on the use of tap water could last several days at best.
