Kmoníček: UN Security Council seat a major opportunity for Czechia
Czechia’s bid for a non-permanent seat on the UN Security Council represents a major opportunity to increase the country’s international influence, according to its new UN ambassador Hynek Kmoníček. Czechia is seeking a seat for 2032 and 2033, with the election scheduled for 2031. Kmoníček, who previously headed the Czech UN mission from 2001 to 2006, said securing support for the bid would be his main priority. He argued that membership would make Czechia more relevant to major global powers, which would need its vote on the Security Council.
