Pavel to promote Czech bid for UN Security Council seat

President Petr Pavel says Czechia will seek a non-permanent seat on the UN Security Council for 2032–2033. Speaking before leaving for New York, where he will address the UN General Assembly on Wednesday, Pavel said promoting the Czech bid would be a key focus of his visit. His bilateral meetings will concentrate on countries that could support the candidacy. Czechia last served on the Security Council in 1994–1995 and lost a bid against Croatia in 2007. The council has five permanent and ten elected members, with candidates requiring support from more than two-thirds of the 193-member UN General Assembly.
