Government approves closure of Eurocentres

The government has approved a plan to abolish Eurocentres, which provide information about the European Union in Czech regions. The centres were established 20 years ago, shortly after Czechia joined the EU.

Prime Minister Andrej Babiš (ANO) said the move was motivated by savings and the fact that there was no longer a need for an office and staff in every region. The decision is expected to save the state 10 million crowns a year.

The prime minister’s EU affairs adviser Milena Hrdinková said communication about the EU could be made more efficiently and with greater impact using online tools, including social media.
