Lower house to debate freeze on politicians’ salaries

The Chamber of Deputies will begin debating a proposal to freeze politicians’ salaries in September. The coalition council has agreed to put the measure ahead of a government bill on funding for Czech Television and Czech Radio, Chamber Speaker Tomio Okamura (SPD) told reporters after a meeting of coalition leaders.

The bill, submitted by the leaders of the ruling coalition of ANO, SPD and Motorists, would freeze politicians’ salaries until the end of 2030. The Babiš government approved the proposal at its second meeting in mid-December last year, but it has yet to be debated by the lower house.
