Czechs produce more household waste than EU average
People in the Czech Republic generated 538 kilograms of municipal waste per person in 2023, slightly above the European Union average and the ninth-highest figure among EU member states. Despite that, a new analysis says the country has made significant progress in reusing recycled materials, with almost 15 percent of raw materials now coming from recycling. Experts say further progress is held back by limited recycling capacity, inadequate infrastructure and low public awareness. Although more items such as furniture and clothing are being collected for reuse, many still cannot be repaired or recycled efficiently.
