Tributes paid after death of artist Milan Knížák
Czech politicians have paid tribute to artist, performer and former National Gallery director Milan Knížák, who has died at the age of 86. Culture Minister Oto Klempíř (Motoristé) described his death as the loss of one of the country's most distinctive modern cultural figures, praising his lifelong defence of artistic freedom and his belief that art should actively change society. He also recalled Knížák's role in the underground Aktual group and the international Fluxus movement. Martin Kupka (ODS) said Knížák embodied the artist's duty to provoke debate and challenge established views through his unconventional work and public engagement.
