Czech politicians condemn Berlin attack

Czech politicians from across the political spectrum condemned what German authorities describe as an Islamist terrorist attack and have expressed sympathy for the victims of Saturday's attack at an LGBT+ rights event in Berlin and. Prime Minister Andrej Babiš (ANO) called the assault "a cowardly and disgusting terrorist act" and offered his condolences to the victims and their families. He argued that such attacks are a consequence of uncontrolled migration and of the "Wir schaffen das" migration policy pursued by the European Union in previous years. Opposition politicians also condemned the violence. Mayors and Independents leader Vít Rakušan said there is no place for hatred in Europe, while Christian Democrats' deputy leader Václav Pláteník said everyone must be able to exercise their right to peaceful assembly safely and denounced all violence motivated by hatred.
