Czech top-flight football season gets under way
The new Czech First League season kicks off this weekend with defending champions Slavia Prague beginning their bid for a third consecutive title at home to Slovácko. Because of a disciplinary sanction following fan violence last season, only children under 12 will be allowed into Slavia's stadium. Coach Jindřich Trpišovský is chasing his 250th league victory. Sparta Prague, another title contender, opens away to Zbrojovka Brno ahead of its upcoming Champions League qualifier. Viktoria Plzeň starts against Slovan Liberec, while regional rivals Pardubice and Hradec Králové meet in a derby. Monday's final fixture sees Mladá Boleslav host promoted newcomers Artis Brno.
