Proposal to allow single women access to IVF faces strong opposition

A proposal by Health Minister Adam Vojtěch (ANO) to allow assisted reproduction for women without a partner has drawn strong objections during the inter-ministerial consultation process.

Several ministries, the Government Legislative Council and the head of the Government Office have called for the bill to be substantially revised or withdrawn.

Critics warn it raises unresolved family law issues, could increase the number of single mothers without addressing the impact on state social spending, and fails to clarify legal questions surrounding the determination of paternity.
