ČEZ to build pumped-storage hydropower plant at Orlík reservoir
Majority state-owned Czech energy giant ČEZ will build a large pumped-storage hydropower plant at the Orlík reservoir in Central Bohemia, creating the country's fourth facility of its kind. The project is part of a CZK 8 billion modernisation of the existing power station and is due for completion in 2033. Once upgraded, the plant will be able to pump water from the lower Kamýk reservoir back to Orlík, storing up to 750 MWh of electricity—enough to cover the daily electricity consumption of around 80,000 Czech households. Construction is expected to begin next year.
