Orlík Reservoir to fall 15 metres below normal amid extreme drought

The Vltava River Authority is preparing to reduce outflows from the Orlík Reservoir amid extreme hydrological drought.

Low inflows and a lack of rainfall have left the reservoir about 15 metres below its normal level. On Friday, the water level is expected to fall to 334.6 metres above sea level, prompting the authority to use water stored in the Slapy Reservoir to maintain river flows.

According to Vltava River Authority spokeswoman Pavlína Mertl, this will be the first time in the history of the Slapy dam that its storage capacity has been used for this purpose.
