FM Lipavský: Syria must be given a chance to return to international stage

Czech Foreign Minister Jan Lipavský (Spolu) said Syria should be shown it has a chance to return to the international community after the fall of Bashar Assad’s regime. Some sanctions could be eased if they do not pose security risks, he told Czech Press Agency (ČTK). President Petr Pavel had earlier voiced support for conditional relief. Lipavský stressed that Czechia never left Syria diplomatically and continues humanitarian projects, such as providing water supplies, which also help curb migration. He added that Prague seeks a stable Syria where minorities feel safe, while maintaining vigilance toward current leadership linked to Islamist forces.
