Czech kayakers win slalom team event at world championships, Satková takes second gold

Gabriela Satková, Lucie Nesnídalová and Antonie Galušková won the women’s kayak team event at the Canoe Slalom World Championships in Sydney, Australia. For Satková it was already her second gold, after Tuesday’s victory with the canoe team. Altogether, the Czech squad has collected three medals so far, with Jakub Krejčí also taking bronze in kayak cross.

The Czech kayakers delivered a clean run, finishing 3.26 seconds ahead of Germany, which picked up two penalty seconds. No other team was able to challenge their lead. Satková, Nesnídalová and Galušková thus followed up on their European title from Vaires-sur-Marne near Paris earlier this year. It is the first world championship gold for Czech women’s kayakers in ten years, the last coming in London in 2015 with Štěpánka Hilgertová, Kateřina Kudějová and Veronika Vojtová. The men’s kayak team event has also begun in Penrith, with Jiří Prskavec, Jakub Krejčí and Jan Bárta representing the Czech Republic.
