Czech MPs spent nearly 20 percent more time in session, night debates surged

Czech lawmakers in the current parliamentary term have spent 2,234 hours in session, almost 20 percent more than in the previous term, according to lower house statistics, Czech Press Agency reports. The increase is largely due to opposition obstruction by ANO and SPD, marked by lengthy speeches and numerous procedural motions. Sessions stretching past midnight rose from four to 27. Debates on adjusting the agenda, often used by opposition leaders to air political views, consumed 605 hours—27 percent of total time, compared to just nine percent in the previous term. Major clashes occurred over laws such as the pandemic act, postal voting, and pension reforms.
