Five million Czechs now use bank identity, mostly for state services

  • Bank identity (Bank iD) is now used by five million people in Czechia, covering three-quarters of the working-age population. The service, launched in January 2021, is most often used for communication with the state, particularly for logging into data mailboxes, according to Bank iD director Marek Růžička. Other frequent uses include access to the Labour Ministry’s Jenda portal, the Social Security Administration, and the online system for secondary school applications. In the private sector, users rely on bank identity mainly with insurance companies, banks, e-shops, and gambling providers. All 11 retail banks active in Czechia now offer the service.
