Czech president signs stricter asylum and migration law
President Petr Pavel has signed into law an amendment tightening asylum and migration rules from January 2026. The legislation, put forward by the ruling coalition, aims to speed up procedures for granting international protection and curb abuse of the system. It also seeks to improve monitoring of the movement and residence of asylum seekers and migrants. The legislation draws on the European Union’s Migration Pact and reflects measures already adopted or planned by other member states to counter illegal migration.
