South Bohemia tops rankings as best place to live in Czech Republic

South Bohemia has overtaken Prague as the best region to live in Czechia, according to this year’s “Místo pro život” (Place to Live) index, compiled by the research agency Datank. The annual ranking, now in its 15th year, evaluates all Czech regions based on a combination of hard data and public opinion.

The Hradec Králové Region climbed to second place, improving on last year’s third, while the Zlín Region took third, up from fourth. Prague, long considered the frontrunner, slipped from the top spot.

This year’s rankings assessed the regions across 88 criteria, grouped into eight categories: safety, leisure and tourism, civic society and tolerance, childcare and education, infrastructure development, employment, healthcare and social services, and environmental sustainability.
