Barbora Strýcová to lead Czech tennis team in Billie Jean King Cup

The Czech team in the Billie Jean King Cup for women’s tennis will be led by former player Barbora Strýcová, who will replace Petr Pála in the post from next January, Mr. Pála said at a press conference on Monday.

Mr. Pála has been leading the team in this tennis competition, known as the Fed Cup until 2020, since 2008. The Czech team won it six times under his leadership. With the six victories, he is the most successful captain in the history of the cup. In total, Czechia and formerly Czechoslovakia have won the cup eleven times.

Ms. Strýcová, 39, ended her playing career in 2023. She was a member of all six Czech teams that won the Fed Cup. In 2019 and 2023, she won the Wimbledon women's doubles competition, together with Taiwanese player Hsieh Su-Wei.
