Menšík, Vondroušová and Valentová advance to second round at Roland Garros

Three Czech tennis players — Jakub Menšík, Markéta Vondroušová and Tereza Valentová — won their opening matches at the French Open. Nineteen-year-old Menšík, playing in his first Roland Garros, beat Frenchman Alexandre Müller in four sets. Vondroušová, returning after a shoulder injury, overcame Russia’s Oksana Selekhmeteva in straight sets. Eighteen-year-old Valentová staged a comeback to defeat France’s Chloé Paquet and will now face world number two Coco Gauff. Vondroušová will play Poland’s Magdalena Fręch in the next round.
