Vondroušová advances to second round in Roland Garros comeback

Markéta Vondroušová returned to Grand Slam action with a straight-sets win over Russia’s Oksana Selekhmeteva at Roland Garros, progressing 6–4, 6–4 after a three-month injury layoff. The 2019 Paris finalist and 2023 Wimbledon champion overcame a slow start, fighting back from 2–4 in the first set and rallying again in the second. Playing with her shoulder taped, the Czech notched up 18 winners despite 30 unforced errors. Several other Czech players are set to begin their campaigns in Paris later today.
