Entrance exams for secondary schools begin, maths remains biggest fear

Students applying to four-year secondary school programmes have started taking their entrance exams. At Prague’s Akademické gymnázium in Štěpánská street, dozens of pupils arrived early in the morning, many accompanied by their parents. Speaking to reporters, some candidates said they had prepared with mock tests or tutoring, while many admitted to fearing the maths test more than the Czech language exam. The second exam date is scheduled for Monday. Each applicant’s final score will include their best result from both subjects. This year, around 98,130 students applied for four-year programmes, about 4,000 more than last year.
