Simon Rattle to conduct Czech Philharmonic’s first ever performance of Weill's Seven Deadly Sins
The Czech Philharmonic Orchestra, under its principal guest conductor Sir Simon Rattle, is set to perform Dvořák's Slavonic Dances and Kurt Weill's Seven Deadly Sins from Wednesday to Friday. Mezzo-soprano Magdalena Kožená will sing the lead role of Anna, accompanied by a male chorus featuring Aleš Briscein, Alessandro Fisher, Lukáš Zeman, and Florian Boesch.
This marks the first concert performance of The Seven Deadly Sins by the Czech Philharmonic. Written in 1933, the piece was the final collaboration between Kurt Weill and Bertolt Brecht before their exile from Germany.
Originally a ‘sung ballet’, the work blends opera, cabaret, jazz, and symphonic music and has become one of Weill’s signature pieces, performed worldwide.
