Scientific studies indicate that climate change is affecting occurrence and spread of wildfires

Climate change is playing a significant, negative role in the occurrence and spread of wildfires, according to the results of three independent scientific studies highlighted by the Institute of Global Change Research of the Czech Academy of Sciences - CzechGlobe in its journal. They show that fires are on average more widespread than before, that their number is increasing in subtropical regions and that the average rate at which they spread is also increasing. "Despite a slight overall decline in the size of individual fires, their total area regionally has increased by up to 29 percent in southeastern South America, slightly less in northern Australia, 18 percent in western Siberia, and 15 percent in western North America," CzechGlobe summarized the study's findings.
