Voting continues in second round of Senate elections

Czechs continue voting Saturday in the second round of elections for seats to a third of the upper house, the Senate. Polling booths opened at 8 AM and are due to close at 2PM with the first results expected to be declared in the afternoon.

For the first time, the opposition ANO party secured two Senate seats in the first round and now has 19 candidates in the final stage across 22 districts. In three districts, including Karviná, Vsetín, and Prague 12, senators were already elected last week. While government coalition parties will retain a majority in the 81-seat Senate, ANO is aiming to significantly increase its representation.
