Telč is not just a town; it's an experience. A journey through its picturesque squares and streets allows you to explore a slice of the past, unchanged by time.

Nestled in the heart of the Czech Republic, Telč is a quaint town, a jewel in the region of South-East Bohemia. The whimsical marriage of Renaissance architecture and a storied past has earned it a place on the UNESCO World Heritage List. Telč is a town where time seems to have stood still, offering a serene respite from the hustle and bustle of city life. Vít Pohanka spoke to local journalist and guide Peter Mach about all the things one can see and do in Telč:

As you walk into the town's main square, the iconic row of Renaissance and Baroque houses, each painted in a riot of pastel hues, leaves you spellbound. Their high gables and elegant arcades are an architectural feast for the eyes. The cobblestone square holds stories of the yesteryears, stories that are etched in the town’s timeless character.

No visit to Telč would be complete without exploring the Telč Château. This former castle is a perfect blend of Gothic fortification and Renaissance refinement. The intricately carved wooden ceilings and the collection of Flemish tapestries take you back in time. The castle grounds are equally alluring, with a stunning tapestry of manicured gardens and ponds.

Churches and Towers

Venture into the sacred corridors of the Church of St. James, an inspiring Gothic masterpiece that towers over the town. The 60-metre tall church tower presents a panoramic view of the red rooftops of Telč and the surrounding lush greenery. The Church of the Holy Ghost and the Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary also add to Telč's spiritual charm.

Lakes and Ponds

One of the unique features of Telč is the interconnected system of three ponds that form a natural defensive barrier around the town. Whether it's the reflective tranquility of Ulický Pond, the verdant charm of Roštejn, or the peaceful setting of Pařezitý, they each offer a calm retreat. Take a leisurely stroll around these ponds and let nature’s symphony captivate you.

The Vysočina (or Bohemian-Moravian Highlands) region, which surrounds the town, is crisscrossed with hiking and cycling trails. If you have more time to stay, it's an ideal way to soak in the serene landscapes of the Czech countryside and let the rural charm engulf you.
