School year in Czechia begins

The new school year has begun in Czechia after two months of summer holidays. Some schools welcomed Czech politicians including Prime Minister Petr Fiala, President Miloš Zeman, and Education Minister Vladimír Balaš as guests of honour on their first day of the academic year.

The Ministry of Education estimates that roughly 60,000 Ukrainian refugees will be among the pupils taking their seats at primary and secondary schools across the country. Earlier this week, Prime Minister Petr Fiala said that schools are prepared for the arrival of the Ukrainian refugee children and that the quality of education for Czech pupils will not suffer.

This is the first time in three years that the start of the school year is not accompanied by regulations against the covid-19 epidemic.
