Hackers demanding millions in extortion attack on Road and Motorway Directorate

Hackers are demanding tens of millions of crowns from the Road and Motorway Directorate to unlock vitally important data from its systems and storage facilities, Radek Mátl, director of the Regional Directorate of Roads and Motorways, told Hospodářské noviny. The ransomware attack took place on May 17, and experts have so far failed to recover the data. The process could take at least five months, which means that tenders for the construction of roads and motorways will be delayed. Mátl said the directorate is considering paying out the money in view of the damage that the loss of data would incur.
