German president honours Czechoslovak paratroopers from Operation Anthropoid
German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier has honoured the memory of the Czechoslovak paratroopers who died in Operation Anthropoid to assassinate Reich Protector Reinhard Heydrich.
The German head of state laid a wreath at the Orthodox Church of Sts. Cyril and Methodius on Resslova Street in Prague, where the paratroopers were holed up and killed or committed suicide after being surrounded by the Nazis. He is the first German president to visit the site.
Mr. Steinmeier, who is in Prague for a three-day official visit, was received with military honours at Prague Castle where he attended a formal lunch hosted by his Czech counterpart Miloš Zeman.
