Karlovy Vary Film Festival honours British actor Michael Caine
The celebrated British actor Michael Caine was awarded the Crystal Globe for lifetime’s contribution to world cinema at the gala opening of the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival on Friday night. The 55th edition of the festival, which had to be rescheduled du to the coronavirus pandemic, opened with the long-awaited premiere of David Ondříček’s biopic about the legendary Czech runner Emil Zátopek.
On the list of VIP guests at the festival this year are American actor, producer and musician Johnny Depp and the famous actor, writer and director Ethan Hawke.
The festival runs until August 28th and will screen around 200 feature and documentary films, including 32 premieres. Oscar-winning director Jan Svěrák is to receive the President’s Award at the closing ceremony.
