“As Far as I Can Walk” takes top prize at Karlovy Vary
“As Far as I Can Walk,” a film by Serbian director Stefan Arsenijević, has won the top prize at the 55th edition of the Karlovy International Film Festival. The drama about African immigrants deported from Germany to Serbia was chosen from 12 contenders for the Crystal Globe by the festival’s grand jury.
Dietrich Bruggemann won the director prize for German film “Nö,” a portrait of a generation of 30-somethings and their struggle for happiness, while the Special Jury Prize went to Czech director Erika Hníková for her documentary “Every Single Minute” about parents who devote all their time to developing their son.
The East of the West competition, focused on work from the former East Bloc, the Mediterranean and North Africawas won by Nuuccha, was won by “Nuuccha”, a Yakut drama on the consequences of colonisation and forced assimilation of nations within Tsarist Russia, directed by Vladimir Munkuev.
The audience award went to “Zátopek,” director David Ondricek’s biopic about the legendary Czech runner Emil Zátopek. The 55th edition of the Karlovy International Film Festival wrapped up in the West Bohemian spa town on Saturday evening.
