Czech Republic joins condemnation of violence against Georgian LGBT activists

The Czech Embassy in Georgia has signed a joint statement with several European Union countries and the U.S. condemning violent attacks in the country on civic activists, community members, and journalists and calling on the Georgian government to protect people's constitutional right to gather peacefully.

LGBT campaigners in Georgia were forced to cancel a planned Pride march after opponents attacked activists and journalists and the government and Church spoke out against the event. Hundreds of violent counter-protesters took to the streets of the Georgian capital Tbilisi against the march, which was scheduled for Monday evening. At least 50 journalists were attacked by mobs at different locations.
