Representatives of the new ANO–SPD–Motorists coalition have already submitted a proposal under which politicians’ salaries, unlike judges’ salaries, would remain at this year’s level for the next five years. Their amendment was posted on the Chamber of Deputies website today before 3 p.m. The authors want the Chamber to approve it in a fast-track first reading so it can take effect at the beginning of next year. However, at least two clubs from the former governing coalition are expected to block this, which would likely prevent the amendment from being passed by the end of the year.

Egg prices continue to rise, according to data from the Czech Statistical Office (ČSÚ). With the Christmas season approaching, egg prices may continue to climb, said Gabriela Dlouhá, chairwoman of the Czech-Moravian Poultry Union, in a statement to ČTK. She also noted that prices are currently being influenced by the spread of avian flu in Europe and the restructuring of poultry farms, as cage-based farming will be banned in Czechia starting in 2027.

Leaders of Czech coalition parties ANO, SPD, and the Motorists’ Party have signed a proposal to freeze politicians’ salaries at 2025 levels for the next five years, starting 1 January 2026, the Czech News Agency reports. The bill will be submitted to the Chamber of Deputies on Thursday, SPD leader and Speaker of the Chamber of Deputies Tomio Okamura told journalists.
“We want the bill to be considered immediately, and for the Senate to meet without delay,” Okamura said. He also acknowledged that fast-tracking the proposal in the Chamber of Deputies could be blocked by the new opposition. The Senate, where outgoing government parties hold a majority, could present another obstacle.
