The government’s legislative council is working on an amendment to the law that will enable the establishment of a Children's Ombudsman. According to the Czech Minister for Legislation Michal Šalomoun the draft law is being finalized and the position should be set up next year. Czechia is one of the last countries in the European Union which lacks a Children’s Ombudsman. The UN Committee on the Rights of the Child has long called on the country to establish one. Minister Šalomoun told Czech Radio that in view of the state of the country’s finances it is unlikely that the Children’s Ombudsman would have a separate office.

These include caroling and the controversial tradition of boys whipping girls with willow whips in return for a painted egg. Lower house deputy chair Olga Richterová told Nova TV the “whipping” should be conditioned by consent on the part of the women, because not all of them feel comfortable with it. Many Czechs will also use the public holiday to visit Easter markets and some of the country’s castles and chateaus which have prepared special programs.

The widow of billionaire Petr Kellner, who was killed in a 2021 heli-skiing crash in Alaska, has said it is premature to reach any conclusions in connection with the accident. Renata Kellner made the statement after some Czech media attempted to reconstruct the tragedy that killed her husband.

According to reports, the attorney for the sole survivor, snowboarder David Horvath, told the Anchorage Daily News that Horvath said Kellner was alive for more than two hours after the crash and was confident they would be rescued. Rescuers reportedly only arrived at the scene five hours after the accident happened. Apparently the helicopter device that could have alerted rescuers to the crash wasn't activated.

Our family cannot confirm this information, Renata Kellner said. "The critical time is still shrouded in many uncertainties and any conclusions are premature at this point. That is also the reason why we want the matter investigated," she added. The family is suing the Alaska helicopter company, lodge and guiding service involved, alleging his death was caused by negligent monitoring and response that delayed the rescue operation.
