Following the release in January of documents referred to as Epstein files, Czech media outlets reported that they contained evidence that Jeffrey Epstein had ties to the Czech Republic, including correspondence with Czech girls and information that he had visited the country repeatedly.

Foreign Minister Petr Macinka announced the move earlier, saying that said Russia frequently uses diplomatic cover for intelligence service personnel and his ministry was working with the intelligence services on a proposal to adjust the notification system so that it would better meet their needs.

Russian aggression poses a direct threat to European security and the risks are growing, President Petr Pavel said in an address to the UN General Assembly in New York. He pointed to a recent attempted drone attack near Leipzig as an example of the immediacy of the threat. He also said Russia’s war was undermining global food security and disrupting agricultural production, exports and supply chains, with particularly serious consequences for countries dependent on stable and affordable food supplies.
Pavel reiterated that Russia was waging its war in violation of the UN Charter and international law and called on China, as a permanent member of the Security Council, to use its influence to help end the aggression against Ukraine. He also stressed the importance of diplomacy and the UN as a forum for dialogue. Addressing artificial intelligence, Pavel warned against an unchecked race for technological dominance and called for international standards, public oversight and clear accountability mechanisms.

The international community must continue its policy of not recognising the annexation of Crimea, Czech President Petr Pavel said in a speech at the Crimea Platform summit on Wednesday.
According to Pavel, Russia’s occupation of the peninsula remains a flagrant violation of the UN Charter and the fundamental principles of sovereignty and territorial integrity. He emphasized that the violation is being committed by a permanent member of the UN Security Council.
The summit is being held in New York on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly, with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky also in attendance.

Václav Havel remains the most highly rated Czech president since the fall of communism, according to a new poll by STEM/MARK. Václav Klaus came second, followed by incumbent President Petr Pavel, who improved slightly compared with the previous poll in May. Miloš Zeman remained fourth.
Havel has held the top position in the agency's assessments for years. Klaus was also second in the previous survey, while Pavel moved ahead of him in the autumn of 2025 before Klaus returned to second place in May.
Respondents rate Pavel positively for his public appearances, representation of the Czech Republic and promotion of Czech interests abroad. His use of presidential powers is also viewed favourably. Respondents see greater room for improvement in his ability to bring society together and resolve disputes on the Czech political scene.

The Czech Republic has joined a group of countries seeking to protect children from the potential impact of artificial intelligence. President Petr Pavel took part on Tuesday in a meeting led by his French counterpart Emmanuel Macron, who launched the initiative.
One of the main messages of the meeting of the Coalition for the Protection of Children’s Rights in the Age of AI was that artificial intelligence should be designed to be safe for children from the outset. “We have recently seen strong warnings from representatives of technology companies that the development of artificial intelligence could get out of control. These warnings must be taken absolutely seriously,” Pavel said.
The group met in New York on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly.

The Chamber of Deputies on Wednesday approved the abolition of regular price increases for motorway vignettes and changed the validity period of one-day vignettes.
Under the amendment, motorists will continue to pay the current prices in the coming years: 2,570 crowns for an annual vignette, 480 crowns for a monthly vignette, 300 crowns for a ten-day vignette and 230 crowns for a one-day vignette. Discounts for vehicles with alternative propulsion will remain in place.
The amendment abolishes the system of price increases linked to inflation and the number of kilometres of new motorways, introduced by the previous government of Prime Minister Petr Fiala (Civic Democrats).
Opposition MPs described the move as populist.
