    Boršice in the Zlín Region has been named Czech Village of the Year 2026, beating 244 other municipalities. Judges praised the village for its care for residents, public spaces and infrastructure, as well as its strong community life. Boršice, home to around 2,200 people, also impressed the jury with support for families and seniors and cooperation between local farmers and the school canteen. Vraclav in the Pardubice Region finished second, while Všeruby in the Plzeň Region came third. Boršice will receive CZK 1.6 million and advance to the European Village Renewal Award competition.

    Czech tennis players Adam Pavlásek and Patrik Rikl missed four match points before losing a dramatic Davis Cup doubles match to Christian Harrison and Austin Krajicek 7–5, 3–6, 6–7 in Prague on Saturday. The defeat leaves Czechia trailing the United States 2–1 in the tie. The hosts must now win both remaining singles matches at Prague’s O2 Arena to reach the Davis Cup quarter-finals. Jakub Menšík will first face world number four Ben Shelton. If he wins, Jiří Lehečka is due to play Learner Tien in the deciding match.

    Around 92,000 people attended the first day of NATO Days and Czech Air Force Days at Mošnov airport near Ostrava on Saturday, according to police. Traffic queues around the airport caused waits of up to two hours, but organisers reported no major problems.The programme featured around eight hours of air and ground demonstrations, including the British Red Arrows and a German Tornado. The Czech military also presented its new Embraer C-390 Millennium transport aircraft to the public for the first time. Military, security and emergency units from 14 countries are taking part in the two-day event.

    President Petr Pavel said the participation of allies and partners at NATO Days in Ostrava was a symbol of mutual support and solidarity. Speaking at the event on Saturday, he stressed that solidarity must work both ways and that national security should be seen as a shared responsibility. Defence Minister Jaromír Zůna (Freedom and Direct Democracy) said security could not be taken for granted and required continuous investment. He highlighted Czech military modernisation projects, including Leopard 2A4 tanks, CV90 and Titus armoured vehicles, Spyder air-defence systems and MADR radars.

    Hundreds of historical re-enactors from Czechia and abroad are taking part in a reconstruction of the Battle of White Mountain in Prague this weekend. More than 50 groups in period costume will recreate the clash between the forces of the Habsburg Emperor and the rebellious Bohemian Estates on November 8, 1620. The programme includes cavalry, artillery, musket fire and historical military camps, alongside a period market and lectures. The original battle lasted less than two hours and ended in the defeat of the Bohemian rebels, effectively bringing their uprising against Habsburg rule to an end.

    The two-day NATO Days and Czech Air Force Days at Mošnov airport near Ostrava drew tens of thousands of visitors on Saturday. Heavy traffic formed around the venue on Saturday morning, with the longest queue stretching around nine kilometres from the D1 motorway and waiting times reaching up to two hours. Military, security and emergency units from 14 countries are taking part, with more than eight hours of demonstrations each day. Highlights include the British Red Arrows, a German Tornado fighter and the Czech public debut of the C-390 Millennium transport aircraft. Admission to the event is free.

    Hundreds of visitors from Czechia and abroad queued at Prague Castle on Saturday as the Czech crown jewels exhibition opened to the general public. By 9 a.m., the line stretched through much of the castle’s South Gardens. The free exhibition in Vladislav Hall, entitled Habsburgs 500, traces the history of the jewels from the accession of Ferdinand I in 1526 to the end of the 18th century. Its centrepiece is the St Wenceslas Crown, accompanied by the royal sceptre and orb. The exhibition runs until September 28. Last year, it attracted more than 51,500 visitors, including school groups.

    Czechia’s National Cyber and Information Security Agency has warned IT professionals and organisations about cyberattacks by the North Korean group WaterPlum using fake job offers. The group poses as employers or recruiters, often representing supposed AI or cryptocurrency companies, to gain access to devices and sensitive information. During job interviews, applicants may be instructed to download and run malicious files disguised as programming assignments. According to an international analysis highlighted by the Czech agency, WaterPlum has compromised at least 30,000 devices in more than 100 countries and obtained funds or credentials from over 7,000 cryptocurrency wallets.

    Czechia and the United States are tied 1-1 after Friday’s opening matches of their Davis Cup qualifier in Prague. Jakub Menšík lost to Learner Tien 2-6, 4-6 before Jiří Lehečka levelled the tie with a 6-4, 6-4 victory over world number four Ben Shelton at the O2 Arena. Saturday’s programme begins with doubles, followed by the reverse singles. The winner of the best-of-five tie will qualify for the eight-team Davis Cup Finals in Bologna, scheduled for November 24 to 29.

    Czechia is facing hybrid warfare from Russia, Prime Minister Andrej Babiš (ANO) said in response to a warning from Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk. Babiš told the TN.cz news website that Czech intelligence services are paying the highest level of attention to risks directed against the country and are sharing information internationally. Tusk told the Polish parliament on Friday that intelligence services believe Russia is planning hybrid attacks involving drones and missiles against countries supporting Ukraine, including Poland. He said late autumn and winter would represent the most critical period in Russia’s war against Ukraine.
