An exhibition titled Fragments of Memory: The Treasury of St. Vitus Cathedral in the Mirror of Contemporary Art opened on Thursday at the Riding Hall of Prague Castle. The show presents the St Vitus Cathedral treasure alongside works of contemporary art and follows a presentation of the collection in Dresden two years ago.

Chief curator Jiří Fajt has combined about 150 historic artefacts collected over more than a thousand years with works by nine modern artists. Highlights include the helmet of Saint Wenceslas and rare documents from the time of Charles IV.

The central exhibit is the golden Coronation Cross of the Kingdom of Bohemia, which contains relics linked to the crucifixion of Christ. The exhibition runs until July 26.

The Czech arms and engineering company Czechoslovak Group, or CSG, increased its net profit by 35.5 percent year on year to 872 million euros, or about 21.3 billion crowns, in 2025. The company, owned by businessman Michal Strnad, is one of Europe’s leading manufacturers of artillery ammunition. It announced the results on Thursday.

CSG said revenues rose by more than 70 percent to 6.7 billion euros, mainly due to strong demand for defence systems and ammunition. It also reported a record order backlog of 15 billion euros.

The company listed its shares on the Amsterdam stock exchange in January, raising about 3.8 billion euros, and expects further growth this year.

Snow has returned to several Czech mountain areas, with heavy snowfall in the Beskydy Mountains and fresh snow overnight in the higher parts of the Jeseníky mountain range. More than ten centimetres have already fallen in the Beskydy and up to 30 centimetres could accumulate during the day.

Mountain roads are wet or slushy and drivers are being urged to use caution. Mountain rescue services are also warning hikers to be prepared for winter conditions and deep snow at higher altitudes.

Temperatures have dropped sharply after unusually warm weather earlier this week. Rain and snow above about 400 to 500 metres are expected to continue on Friday, with slightly warmer weather forecast for the weekend.

Czech tennis player Jiří Lehečka has reached the semi-finals of the Miami Open after defeating Spanish surprise package Martin Landaluce 7–6, 7–5. It is only the second time Lehečka has made the last four at a Masters tournament. He will face France’s Arthur Fils on Friday for a place in the final.

Lehečka’s run in Miami mirrors that of fellow Czech Karolína Muchová, who will play American Coco Gauff in the women’s semi-final. Both Czechs are hoping to follow in the footsteps of Jakub Menšík, who won the tournament in Florida in a surprise victory last year.

Some energy suppliers in the Czech Republic have started raising gas prices in connection with the crisis in the Middle East, while others are waiting to see how the market develops.

Energy supplier Innogy increased prices for some fixed-rate products earlier this week and Pražská plynárenská and MND are preparing similar changes. The increases are expected to affect mainly new contracts with fixed prices.

European benchmark gas prices have risen by more than 50 percent since the conflict in the Middle East began at the end of February.

The Czech Senate has declared a reduction in funding for the army in favour of investment in transport infrastructure to be a risk, given growing security threats. Legislators in the upper chamber, including some from the governing ANO party, voted to approve this statement on Wednesday.

The Senate said redirecting spending in this way would jeopardise Czechia’s defence capabilities and also harm the country’s reputation.

The ANO-led government have cut defence outlay in this year’s budget and the state will not meet a commitment to NATO to spend at least 2 percent of GDP on defence.

Autonomous public transport should begin to appear in Czech cities and towns around 2040, the head of the digital division of Škoda Group said on Tuesday. Jiří Liberda told journalists in Prague that by then the relevant technology and legislation will be in place, while people will have got used to the idea.

Mr. Liberda said that tenders launched by public transport operators already often require the possibility of systems that eliminate accidents and reduce consumption, or are even capable of fully autonomous operation without the involvement of a driver.
