The Czech Republic has fallen behind in rail, road and data connections with neighbouring countries and should accelerate infrastructure development, President Petr Pavel said at the conclusion of the Three Seas Initiative summit in Croatia. He warned that weak connectivity is already affecting the economy, noting that goods are increasingly transported around, rather than through, the country. The president said that improved links would deliver immediate benefits for economic growth and tourism.

The European Commission has decided to refer the Czech Republic and Hungary to the Court of Justice of the European Union for failing to comply with rules governing the European Arrest Warrant (EAW).
According to the Commission, the Czech Republic received a formal notice in 2020 and a follow-up warning in November 2023 over the incorrect implementation of several provisions and has failed to rectify the failings.
The European Arrest Warrant, in force since 1 January 2004, is a simplified cross-border judicial procedure that allows for the transfer of suspects or convicted individuals between EU member states, replacing earlier, more time-consuming extradition processes.

Press freedom worldwide has fallen to its lowest level in 25 years, according to the latest report by the international organization Reporters Without Borders (RSF). Media conditions are described as “difficult” or “very serious” in most of the 180 countries surveyed, largely due to the spread of restrictive legislation.
The Czech Republic slipped one place year-on-year to 11th. The bottom of the ranking is once again occupied by Saudi Arabia, Iran, China, North Korea and Eritrea. At the top, where media enjoy the greatest freedom are Norway, The Netherlands, Estonia, Denmark and Sweden.
