If Ukraine were to express interest in L-39 Skyfox aircraft, the first planes could be delivered at the start of next year, Viktor Sotona, president of aircraft manufacturer Aero Vodochody, told ČTK. The multi-role Skyfox jets could be supplied instead of four L-159 aircraft from the Czech military, which Ukraine had previously sought. Defence Minister Jaromír Zůna of the Freedom and Direct Democracy (SPD) party has said such a sale would not be advantageous for Czechia. Sotona said the company is analysing production capacity and possible adjustments to ensure a rapid response should Ukraine formally request the aircraft.

Prime Minister Andrej Babiš, the ANO party leader, said he is not considering dismissing Foreign Minister Petr Macinka of the Motorists' party, adding that cooperation with him is excellent. Babiš said opposition parties and the media are trying to destabilise the governing coalition, but will not succeed. The ANO-led government, together with the Freedom and Direct Democracy (SPD) party and the Motorists' party, is expected to face an opposition no-confidence vote over text messages sent by Macinka to Petr Pavel, which the president described as attempted blackmail. Macinka rejects that interpretation.

Czechia received nearly CZK 78 billion more from the European Union budget and funds than it paid in contributions last year, the Ministry of Finance of the Czech Republic said. Of the net balance, about CZK 47 billion came from the EU recovery programme NextGeneration EU, with the rest from structural funds and the common agricultural policy. The net position fell year on year from CZK 84.5 billion. Finance Minister Alena Schillerová said the decline underlines the need to closely monitor the pace of drawing EU funds.

An international team of scientists from the Czech Republic, Canada and Spain has discovered a previously unknown beetle living deep underground in central Chile. The tiny insect, measuring less than one millimetre, is blind and wingless. Genetic analysis by researchers from the Czech Advanced Technology and Research Institute at Palacký University Olomouc confirmed that it belongs to an entirely new beetle family, named Badmaateridae. According to entomologist Ladislav Bocák, the lineage dates back around 220 million years to the late Triassic period. The beetle was found during the World Soil Fauna Project using advanced DNA techniques.

The project to purchase F-35 fighter jets has reached a stage where it must continue, ANO party leader Andrej Babiš said after visiting the Čáslav air base, adding that he wants to improve the contract terms. President Petr Pavel recently backed the plan, noting that 18 NATO countries intend to acquire the jets, making them the backbone of the alliance’s air defence. He warned that reversing the decision would mean losing funds already paid, including advance payments. Pavel also said the army must address personnel shortages, possibly by strengthening reserves or offering state-supported training for volunteers in key specialisations.
