Two-time Wimbledon champion Petra Kvitová expressed criticism of the All England Club’s decision to allow Russian and Belarussian tennis players to partake in this year’s British Grand Slam. The statement was made at a press conference after Kvitová’s victory in the semi-finals of the Miami Open. She also said that she believes tennis players from both countries shouldn’t be able to compete at the Olympics.

Last year, in reaction to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, the All England Club, which organizes the tournament, banned Russian and Belarussian tennis players from playing at Wimbledon. However, the decision led to the ATP and WTA removing arguably the most prestigious Grand Slam from its world ranking points system. The Czech tennis player also expressed praise for the decision that was made by the organizers of Wimbledon last year.

The British Grand Slam is set to take place in July.
