Senator under fire for suggesting segregation would benefit Romany schoolchildren

A Czech senator has come under fire from all sides for suggesting that Romany schoolchildren would benefit from being placed in separate classes because they would not feel discriminated against. The statement goes against the government’s policy of inclusion in schools and immediately came under fire from Romany organizations, members of the ruling parties and the Commissioner for Human Rights Klára Šimáčková Laurenčíková. Interior Minister Vít Rakušan said Senator Hamplová’s address to the upper chamber was “a show of blatant racism that was beyond belief in the present day and age”.
