The Czech Ministry of Defence is not satisfied with Sweden's terms for extending the lease of 14 JAS-39 Gripen aircraft beyond 2027 and has asked the Swedish side to amend the proposal, Minister Jana Černochová said  after a meeting with Swedish Defence Minister Palo Jonson in Prague. Negotiations will continue in the coming weeks. The minister said that since the price of military equipment is rising on global scale, it is clear that the lease price must also go up, however she said there are items in the offer that the Czech side does not think the country should have to pay for. According to Černochová, the Gripens are at the end of their life cycle and should be modernised.

The Orlen Unipetrol refinery near Litvínov has started work on the gradual restoration of operations following the controlled detonation of an aerial WWII bomb on the factory grounds on Friday.  An inspection of production technologies is now underway. So far, no significant damage has been found that would affect the resumption of operations, company spokesman Pavel Kaidl said. Full resumption of operations will take several days.

The government has said it will release part of the fuel stocks from the state's material reserves so as to cover the production shortfall at the plant, which had to suspend production for over ten days following the  discovery of a WWII air bomb on its premises.

Russia's imperialist ambitions have no limits, it is up to us to restrict them, Foreign Minister Jan Lipavský  said in his speech at the Globsec security conference in Prague, warning that Putin’s victory in the war on Ukraine would present a serious security threat for Europe and would destabilize the continent.

The Czech foreign minister said his country does not place any restrictions on Ukraine's use of the military equipment that it supplies, but he emphasized that Czechia is not among the states providing long-range weapons and highly sophisticated weapon systems, so it is not faced with the dilemma of whether and how it should allow Ukraine to use them against Russia.

The EU diplomacy chief, Josep Borrell, said on Thursday that EU states must remove restrictions on the use of weapons provided to Ukraine. He said Ukrainians must be able to target places from where the Russians are bombing and shelling them. Speaking at Globsec, Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen also argued for the lifting of restrictions, especially on long-range missiles.
