Maximum prices for diesel at filling stations in the Czech Republic will be set at CZK 49.59 per litre on Wednesday, while petrol will cost no more than CZK 43.15 per litre, Finance Minister Alena Schillerová (ANO) announced.
The caps are thus more than one crown per litre higher than the current average prices in the country. The ministry will set the price ceilings on a daily basis.
Filling stations that exceed the state-mandated prices may face fines, the minister said. Operators could be fined up to CZK 5 million. The state will monitor compliance with the pricing rules.
Additional measures include reducing excise duty on diesel by 2.35 CZK per litre, from the current 9.95 CZK.

More than 1,300 cases of Lyme disease have been recorded in the first quarter of this year, over three times higher than in the same period last year, according to data from the State Health Institute.
Tick-borne diseases have been on the rise in recent years. By the end of July last year, the number of cases had reached a ten-year high. More than 3,000 people were infected with Lyme disease and 372 with tick-borne encephalitis. For the full year, over 11,000 Lyme disease cases and more than 700 encephalitis cases were reported.
The Czech Republic remains among the countries with the highest incidence of tick-borne diseases in Europe, with higher rates recorded only in the Baltic states. Experts say climate change is a contributing factor, as ticks remain active for longer periods and are spreading to higher altitudes.

The rise in fuel prices following the outbreak of the war in Iran, has yet to be reflected in inflation data and is expected to impact figures in April, analysts told the Czech News Agency.
Consumer price growth is therefore likely to continue accelerating in the coming months from March’s 1.9 percent, according to economists. Experts say the key factors shaping inflation in the months ahead will be the duration of the conflict in the Middle East and developments in energy prices.
If the war lasts for several months and energy prices remain elevated or continue to rise, inflation could at least temporarily move above the Czech National Bank’s tolerance range, according to Raiffeisenbank analyst Martin Kron. The Czech National Bank’s tolerance range stands between one and three percent.

Representatives of the state, cultural institutions and trade unions will meet at the Ministry of Culture on Tuesday to discuss funding for the sector. The so-called “small cultural tripartite” will address the impact of a proposed state budget allocation of approximately 17.6 billion CZK. This figure is about 1.17 billion CZK lower than the previous government’s proposal, prompting criticism from professional associations over cuts to ministry spending. Talks with Culture Minister Oto Klempíř have resulted in a promise to provide additional funding for some programs, with final decisions expected from the tripartite negotiations.
