Consumer prices in Czechia rose by 2.1% in December, the same as in November. This is according to a preliminary estimate released on Wednesday by the Czech Statistical Office (ČSÚ). The inflation rate was slightly above that of the eurozone, which stood at 2%, according to Eurostat data.
Analysts say that steady prices for energy and food have helped keep overall inflation under control. However, they are concerned about the rise in service costs. While prices for goods in Czechia increased by 0.4% year-on-year, with the pace of growth easing slightly in December, service prices rose by 4.8%. As in previous months, the only category to see a fall in prices was energy, including fuel, which fell by an estimated 4.2%.

David Pastrňák has become the second-highest-scoring Czech player in NHL history after Tuesday’s game in Seattle. The Boston Bruins forward scored twice and, although it was not enough to prevent a 7–4 defeat, it lifted his career tally to 410 goals. Pastrňák thereby moved past Patrik Eliáš, who ended his NHL career with 408 goals.
Pastrňák now trails only Czech hockey legend Jaromír Jágr, who scored 766 goals and sits fourth on the NHL’s all-time scoring list. However, the 29-year-old Havířov native may yet overtake Jágr, too.
