The Czech Republic will not participate in the Eurovision Song Contest next year, public broadcaster Czech Television said on Tuesday. In a statement on social media, the station said it had made the decision for budgetary reasons.
Czech Television indicated that it might take part in the international event again in the future. The Czechs first participated in 2007 and have not enjoyed success in the competition.
Czech Television and Czech Radio are facing budget cuts under planned legislation to end the current license fee system and bring them under the state budget.
